When trying to make breaking changes to a site or application, it's always a good idea to perform a backup first, that you can easily and quickly restore in the event that something breaks.
As well as our own automated backups, you can also perform one-off backups with Softaculous. These are temporary, and are automatically deleted after 14 days after they've been captured. You can store a maximum of 3 manual backups.
These manual backups are a good way of testing changes in WordPress for example, as they only take a couple of seconds to a few minutes to restore, depending on the size of your site. You can also leverage the staging/clone option in Softaculous to create a sandbox version of your WordPress installation (the staging function may not be available on all scripts).
1) Under the 'Extra Features
' tab in your hosting control panel, select 'Softaculous Auto Installer
'
2) On the top-right, select 'All Installations
'
3) On the desired website/app, click the 'Backup
' button
4) We recommend leaving all options as default (to include the directory and database in your backup), we also recommend entering a backup note so that you can refer to it later if necessary. Click the 'Backup Installation
' button.
Depending on your email preferences, you may receive an email to confirm that the backup has been successfully created. There will also be a notice on the interface to confirm that the backup was created successfully.
1) Go to the 'Backups and Restore
' tab in Softaculous
2) Find the backup that you wish to restore. You can hover over the notes section to review the notes for the backups that you performed.
3) You have three options - you can Download, Restore, or Delete your backup. Downloading may be useful if you wish to keep the backup for longer than our retention period of 14 days.
To restore the backup, click the restore button (the green circling arrow)
4) You will be given a few options. If you wish to restore the site to an earlier date, but the site isn't broken, we'd recommend leaving the defaults. However, if the site is broken due to file changes, you may wish to also select the 'Delete existing files/folders
' option. Then, click 'Restore Installation
'.
