How to enable Spam Filtering in DirectAdmin

Spam Filtering is disabled for domains by default, it's an opt-in service. This is offered at no additional charge, but requires you to login and enable it manually.

While the dashboard mentions SpamAssassin, we are not using this product - we are using a drop-in replacement called Rspamd. It still uses the SpamAssassin configuration, so the instructions remain the same.

Rspamd has the benefit of being able to process inbound emails faster, and has a strong neural engine that can detect spam and scams more accurately than some of its competitors.

Enable Spam Filtering

1) Login to your hosting control panel and go to E-Mail Manager -> Spamassassin Setup

2) Click 'ENABLE SPAMASSASSIN'

3) We recommend setting the below settings - but you can change these to suit your requirements:

Blocking strategy -> Set to 'User Spambox'

High score block -> Set to 'Yes'

Global threshold -> Set to 'Low'

Rewrite subject -> Set to 'Yes'

Spam delivery -> Set to 'Don't use attachments'

You may wish to elect for a more permissive configuration to begin with. Please note that our Support Team cannot unblock blocked emails. Once an email is blocked at the filter, it is rejected and cannot be retrieved. Therefore, you may wish to set your Global Threshold to 'Medium' or 'High' to begin with, and lower it if you notice too much spam.
